Ravenshaw University came into existence on the 15th day of November, 2006. It was an upgradation of Ravenshaw College established in 1868, one of the oldest and largest colleges in India which subsequently became an autonomous college with CPE status by UGC and ‘A’ grade by NAAC. The College with all its glorious academic achievement and ceaseless scholastic pursuits had already created a distinct niche for itself in India and beyond. The history of this great institution is, in a manner of speaking, the history of modern Orissa. The University has 27 departments of which 20 are post-graduate departments. M.Phil. the programme is available in 14 departments and all the departments have provision for Ph.D. & D.Litt. programmes. Presently the University runs 23 Post-Graduate courses with research facilities and 27 Undergraduate honors courses.

Ravenshaw University Admission the UG/PG programs is done through Central Allotment Process (UG/PG CAP) on the basis of marks scored in last qualifying examination i.e. either 10+2 exam or Bachelor's Degree as required for respective courses. Candidates seeking admission to the university programmes must fulfill the required eligibility criteria in order to appear for the entrance test. Interested applicants can obtain the concerned application form available at the university website or in person from the university office and submit it upon completion to along with the prescribed fee.

Candidates interested in applying may do so by following the guidelines given on the official university website, during the month of June. The selection process for various courses of the University consists of a comprehensive entrance examination that is conducted internally by the University. The tests are subject-specific and held on different days during the last 10 days of June. Reservation policy is in accordance with the regulations of the Government of India. Relaxations in minimum required grades may be given to some reserved categories as applicable. The discretion of the University is applicable in all situations, and the decision of the Governing Board is final with regard to the admission process.

The selection process consists of an entrance examination organized by the Ravenshaw University. The merit list is based on the performance in this examination, as well as academic merit at the discretion of the university. Online applications forms to apply for courses offered by Ravenshaw University will be available on the official website after admission schedule is announced.

To apply online, applicants have to register themselves first by entering email ID and mobile number. Once the registration is done successfully, a login password will be sent to the provided email ID and mobile number via SMS. This login ID is to be used as AIN (Application Identification Number) for future login purpose.

After Successful login applicant will be required to select course(s) he / she may wish to apply and check the eligibly first. Once found eligible he / she can fill up rest of the admission form.

The College originally was affiliated to Calcutta University and thereafter to Patna University in 1917 and was finally affiliated to Utkal University in 1943. The Utkal University began functioning from this campus till it was shifted to its present site at Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar. This institution is the alma mater of the most distinguished personalities of the state. Not only the Utkal University but also the Orissa State Museum and Madhusudan Law College are the offshoots of this Institution obtaining their independent status at a later stage.
