The University conducts research, education, training and extension services for creating the right environment and systems to facilitate the development of children. Founded by Narendra Modi (then Chief Minister of Gujarat), it is the only Children's University in India. In fact, it is the only university in the entire world that aims to strengthen the younger generation from minus nine months to eighteen years. It is affiliated with the University Grant Commission (UGC). CU, Gujarat follows the motto - Every Child Matters. The University is involved in providing Programmes of In-Service Training for Teachers, Anganwadi Workers, Health Workers and others relating issues to various aspects of education relating to children. The University has found 12 Tapovan Research Centres in various parts of the state, one of which is in the campus of the university. These centers educate women about various issues like issues relating to the birth of a child, childhood nutrition, physical health, issues relating to the early stages of growth etc.
Organisations and establishments across Peterborough, such as Vivacity and Nene Park Trust (Ferry Meadows), as well as our own school clubs, currently provides young people opportunities to learn new things in their own time. Members of the Children’s University can take part in these activities and earn ‘hours of learning’ leading to gaining certificates that show their achievements. This is followed by graduation ceremonies (when enough hours have been accrued) just like in an adult university As this is a national scheme, you can even take your passport away with you on holiday and earn ‘learning hours’ whilst visiting any Children’s University registered venue around the country. Children wishing to take part will need to purchase a ‘Passport for Learning’ (£6.00) in which they can log their hours. They will also be provided with log-in details to the website where they can discover learning destinations in Peterborough and across the country. Children can visit these venues with friends and parents during the holidays or weekends and take their passports with them to be stamped as proof of their learning. Longthorpe Primary School is registered as a learning destination with Children’s University so, if your child attends a lunchtime or after school club, they will be able to receive a stamp for this too!
