Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, comprising of Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune, was accorded the status of University under Section 3 of the University Grant Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, vide Notification No. F.9-39/2001-U.3 dated 11th January 2003 of the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary & Higher Education, New Delhi and (ii) Notification No.F6-9/2003 (CPP-I) dated 24/01/2003 by the University Grant Commission (UGC), New Delhi. Padmashree Dr. D.Y. (Dnyandeo Yashwantrao) Patil, a well-known educationist, and philanthropist from Kolhapur, situated in the state of Maharashtra, is the founder president of D. Y. Patil Educational Academy, Ramrao Adik Education Society and Dr. D. Y. Patil Pratishthan, D.Y. Patil Education Society and Continental Medicare Foundation. D.Y. Patil Education Society was founded in the year-1987 with the mission to offer the best quality education in the fields of health sciences comparable with the best institutions in the world. The Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil University comes under the administrative jurisdiction of the University of Pune. It operates under the rules and regulations of the Pune University.
